UPDATES...........are comin

Jackarais and I have decided to keep working on this game, because it is a beautiful child that deserves a reasonably polished incarnation. Obviously, it's quite broken right now - playable to completion, sure, but as many comments from the jam page pointed out, it is much too easy, never-mind its numerous bugs. We have multiple levels planned to add to the game, but that'll take a while -- in the more immediate future, I plan to post an update featuring a more stable rework of the single playable level that is in the game now, with a big handsome graphical & technical makeover. Here's some of the changes coming:

  • A MUCH better map design! Map design at all, I should say! With even more beauteous never~before~seen artwork by Jackarais :D
  • Rebindable keys and CONTROLLER SUPPORT! I have found this particularly more enjoyable to play with a controller so far ^_~
  • Fixed sprite layering and dino animations! The dino animations no longer jitter and their aggressive modes activate properly upon chase, instead of after the players' death... Pterodactyl shadows no longer appear to fly backwards either.
  • Total rework of the stealth system: previously, you just had to get near enough to a tree/bush/rock to be within a collider, which would grant you the stealthed status indefinitely.  Now instead of colliders, there are stealth "walls" on most objects -- when you are within range of a dino, you will need to put one of these objects between you & them to stay out of their view. We have all sorts of ideas to make stealth more interesting, including dinos with better hearing than eyesight that you'll have to stealth differently around, but that'll be for a later update ;D
  • Destructable objects: as before, dinos will chase you if they see you, and you have a chance to get away if you can put enough space between you & them that they give up chase. Now, you will also have to be careful what path you take as you flee, because they will crush any trees/bushes/rocks in their path, leaving you with less stealth objects to complete your objective.
  • Sprint no longer has a cooldown; instead, it's tied to a Stamina bar displayed in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Stamina depletes fast and regens very slowly, so you'll still have to decide when it's worth it to exert yourself.

Okee dokee I just wanted to write all that down before I forget all the things that have changed between the currently posted version & what's to come. I don't have a solid date for when this update is coming but I'm gonna shoot for sometime next month (April). I made a twatter to put updates on because coding is lonely work, so you can follow that if you wanna see me babble about what's going on with it, or shout at me about what other dinos we should add. @domspeciesgame
